2015 Home Season Opener Double Header

The Prairieland Punishers hosted their first home bout of the season Saturday at the Decatur Civic Center. There was a big crowd of 800+ on hand as the Punishers introduced fans to a new team, new logo and new merchandise.

Playing first in the double header the newly formed Punishers Backlash battled the McLean County Missfits. The Backlash started strong keeping the opposing jammer from scoring while jumping to an early 12 to 1 lead. But the Missfits quickly took the advantage back with solid walls that shutdown the Backlash jammers. In the end, the Missfits won 76 – 141. Though the Backlash lost, they showed great walls and communication – something to build on as the season progresses. Carol Sponagle was the MVJ and Suzanne Johnson was the MVB.

In the second bout of the double header, the Punisher All-Stars took on the Twin City Dead Ringers. Each team started off strong, but the Dead Ringers took an early lead with the help of a powerful defense. The All-Stars were quick to rebound and keep the fight within striking distance. There were not many lead changes, but the All-Stars kept the score close throughout the game with tenacious jamming. The Dead Ringers took home a win: 126 – 169. Sinnaomon Slam was MVJ and Funky Cold Bredina was MVB.

The Punishers were able to raise $1,750 for Life Goes On!

The Punishers would like to thank all the volunteers that made this home season opener happen as well as all the sponsors who gave us the support needed to put on two competitive bouts. They look forward to the next home bout, which will be another double header on May 9th at the Decatur Civic Center – save the date!
